Scouts

For over one hundred years, the global Scout Movement has contributed to building a better world through the personal commitment of hundreds of millions of women and men living up to their Scout Promise. Scouting is an educational movement, open to all, which aims to help young people develop to their full potential as human beings. Scouting builds on a value system that encourages the combined development of autonomy and responsibility within a clear ethical and spiritual framework. Throughout the world, Scouting is tackling issues such as sustainable development, cultural diversity, youth employability, responsible governance, the fight against racism and social exclusion, equal opportunities for men and woman, youth citizenship, the protection of the environment and the promotion of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Scouts Canada, the country’s leading youth organization, offers fun and exciting outdoor adventure for boys, girls and youth aged 5-26 in communities across Canada. Over 75,000 young people enjoy Scouts Canada’s programs, which are provided by 23,000 caring and dedicated volunteers. Globally, there are 28 million members in 158 countries. The Guinness Book of World Records has certified Scouting as the largest youth movement in the world.
