Award

Step One: The Discovery Process The Discovery Process is your chance to learn about the Millennium Goal you are most interested in. It has three parts: Exploring (What is it all about?) Actively discover an issue related to the environment, peace, human rights or human health. You might hike with rangers through a forest threatened by pollution or visit a women’s shelter to learn about gender discrimination. Responding (What does it mean for me?) Process, analyze and refl ect on the information you have seen and collected. Make a personal commitment to the issue you have chosen. Taking Action (What can I do?) Develop a personal action plan to increase community awareness about the issue and contribute to solving the problem. You can design your own project or support an existing project. Step Two: Volunteer Service Now that you have completed the Discovery Process and identified your action plan, you and your team are ready to make a difference through a period of volunteer service. You should demonstrate a personal commitment to concrete action and provide real service to the community. This service should be the equivalent of about two weeks of full time work. Step Three: Recognition Send us your completed passport, recording your discovery and volunteer experience. If you meet the criteria, we will present you with the Youth of the World Award. After receiving the award, we will invite you to join the Youth of the World Network. This is a chance to share your knowledge and experience with other young people. You could organize a Discovery Process event or a Global Development Village in your own neighbourhood.
